The RCMP Gander Detachment has reached out to the Chamber and asked to send you information of the following scam items that are currently happening in the Gander area:
- Gift Card Scam: People are receiving calls and messages asking them to purchase large quantities of gifts cards. The RCMP are asking for the assistance of retailers who sell gift cards to train their staff to identify the possibility of the scam and question customers on such purchases. There have been a number of such incidents in the Gander area in recent months.
- Counterfeit Bills: There continues to be active cases of counterfeit bills being passed in Gander. Most commonly circulated are $50 bills. Whenever a counterfeit bill is identified it must be reported to the RCMP. The Chamber has information brochures available at the Chamber office to assist in training your staff. Dyke would be pleased to provide you and your staff information on the identification of these and any other ongoing scams.
