Consultation on Potential Tariff Remission for Certain Imports
The Department of Finance Canada is reaching out to Canadian producers and industry associations regarding the potential remission of tariffs on certain imports from the United States and China.
The Department has outlined its framework and process for how it will consider remission requests for tariffs on products from the United States (U.S.) and China. As part of these frameworks, the government may grant relief on imported inputs that cannot be sourced either domestically or reasonably from other international sources.
To facilitate consultations with domestic producers to assess availability of domestic supply, the Department has launched a web-based consultation process. Based on remission requests submitted by Canadian businesses, we are requesting your input to determine whether these goods can be manufactured in Canada. Please be aware that due to the technical nature of these product descriptions, all descriptions are published in the language that they were received.
We invite you to review the list of products and the consultation notice via the following link: Domestic Supply Consultations for Consideration in the Assessment of Tariff Remission Requests – Canada.ca. If your company is capable of producing any of the listed goods, either currently or in the future, please complete U.S. and China surtax remission order: Short supply consultation by July 15th, 2025.
Where domestic supply is identified, the companies seeking remission on these goods will be directed to follow up with the relevant domestic supplier.
If you have any questions about this consultation, please don’t hesitate to respond to this email. [email protected]
